Subject: EPA focus group at ACS meeting in DC

The ACS, through the Committee on Chemical Safety and the Division of Chemical Health and Safety, is a partner with the US EPA on the School Chemical Cleanout Campaign (SC3).  The EPA is holding a focus group in conjunction with the ACS national meeting.  The objective of the focus group is to gather information about building partnerships to conduct responsible chemical management activities in K-12 schools.  Nine participants are needed, but others can attend as observers.  During the focus group, EPA would like to hear your thoughts on how you can lend your expertise toward creating safer learning environments for our future scientists.  You will also have an opportunity to sign up to be on the SC3 Partners list during the focus group; however, the ability to undertake an SC3 project right now is not a prerequisite to participation in the focus group.

The focus group will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (with two 10 minute breaks).  It will be in the Monroe Room of the Washington Plaza Hotel.  If you are interested and willing to participate, please contact Rhonda Minnick of EPA as soon as possible by email at minnick.rhonda**At_Symbol_Here**epa.gov or on (703) 308-8771.

To learn more about SC3, please visit our Web site at www.epa.gov/sc3.  You can also  attend the SC3 Session, presented by Kristina Meson, National SC3 Program Manager, from 9:00 AM-10:40 AM, Tuesday, August 18, 2009, in the Washington Plaza -- Diplomat Room.  Participants will learn about SC3 and how they and the organizations they represent can get involved with their local schools to make them safer places for students to learn and grow.
