In addition to the Symposium Frankie and Tim are organizing, CHAS is considering a =BD day workshop, on the Saturday prior to the meeting – 23 March.

If you were to attend the conference, would you consider also attending this workshop?  This is not a commitment on your part, rather I am trying to estimate the interest among our members

Description:

Strategies for Hazard Communication in the Laboratory – Academic and Industrial

This is a half day workshop to provide those responsible for the implementation of Hazard Communication in their work environment with information related to recent changes in OHSA’s Hazard Communication Standard.  These recent changes, March 26, 2012, adopted several aspects related to global harmonization of precautionary warnings.  The revised standard includes: revised criteria for classification of chemical hazards, new labeling provisions, a specified format for safety data sheets, revisions to definitions, and new training requirements.  The new labeling and data sheets require the use of standardized signal words, pictograms, hazard statements and precautionary statements.  The workshop will focus on the changes and requirements of the new rule as well as provide tips and tools for the implementation of the new requirements.  The workshop is designed for the practioner that is responsible for translating the standard to individuals that work in teaching, research or industrial laboratories.

Please reply to the list as a whole –

Thanks

Neal

Afternoon –

With several organizations getting back into the swing of things it is time to begin planning the Spring ACS Meeting.  It will be held in New Orleans – April 7-13.

Abstract Submissions are now open for that meeting.

Timothy Black and I are chairing a symposium on the Hazard Communication Standard – On March 26 of 2012 – OHSA issued the new standard that reflect the changes associated with the implementation of global harmonization.  We are looking for papers related to the changes that organizations will have to implement, and how they are doing the new implementation.

If you are interested please contact me or Tim (tblack01**At_Symbol_Here**drury.edu).

Safety is everyone’s responsibility.  Keep an eye out for hazards and correct them when you see them.
