Hey I can contribute something!
Just last week, my staff (cleanroom environment involved with nano-fabrication) got a presentation on ChemInventory. I'm unsure of the cost, but we appear to be adopting that system soon. The benefits are that system administrators can grant access with varying levels of user-ability (read-only mode, ability to make order requests, etc..) to anyone involved with chemicals you have, and the system even contains safety data for every chemical in your possession.

I know this topic has been discussed before, but things change very quickly so I thought I'd ask what current opinions are. We are a small state university with 5 full time faculty. Interest has been expressed in getting a scan/bar-code
based inventory system. What do those of you in small schools think about them? Which current systems seem to work best? at what approximate cost? In other words, please pass on any info you have.
Thanks and have a Happy Holiday Season,
