Hi Ralph,

The blog post has a link to a presentation on airflow inside of storage cabinets. One of the conclusions was that resealing solvent bottles with Teflon tape brought VOCs to non-detectable concentrations. Does anyone know if they sealed under the cap (similar to how a plumber uses Teflon tape) or over the outside of the cap (similar to how chemists use parafilm)?

A quick side note here, resistivity of hinges increases if one uses cement board shelf inserts on corrosive cabinets. These tend to neutralize small acid spills and retard corrosive effects of acid vapors.

I don't. I'll keep the option you mentioned in mind when the time comes.

I suspect that the strength of wood vs metal chemical cabinets depends on the quality of the casework as well as its use. Most of our wooden casework here has held up well here over 14 years, but there are specific pieces where the drawers and cabinets have fallen apart. Coincidently(?), those pieces are used as solvent storage areas. I suspect that the wood glues do not hold up well to prolonged exposure to those fumes, no matter how well ventilated the overall lab is.
