The technicians noted that most of the gas had already released from the container and a small amount of gas was remaining. The cylinder was removed from the pump house for safety measures. There were no hazards to the public and no injuries from the release. The scene was placed under control around 11:10 AM.

JASIN, Sept 4 ‰?? The Fire and Rescue Department‰??s Hazardous Materials Unit (Hazmat) has decided to release the ammonia gas trapped in gas piping at a chicken processing farm in Merlimau, in stages last night.

State Housing, Local Government, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Datuk Tey Kok Kiew said the gas release began at 10pm and would take about 10 hours.

He said Hazmat had sprayed water in five locations in the farm to help release the trapped gas into the air, with gas readings indicating a drop from 500 ppm (part per million) to about 30 ppm within 45 minutes.

The department was also conducting gas readings every two hours in areas within a 3km radius of the factory, Tey said at a press conference at the operations centre here late last night, adding that if the readings in the areas indicated that the air was polluted, the release of the gas would be stopped.

WORCESTER ‰?? An ammonia leak from Ginseng UP beverages on Plum Street was brought under control, according to a Fire Department spokesman, who said it amounted to a low-risk hazardous materials situation.

There was no danger to the public, Deputy Chief Martin Dyer said.

The incident, off Shrewsbury Street, unfolded about 9:30 Tuesday morning. Workers were outside the building, at 16 Plum St. The road was blocked.

Deputy Chief Dyer said someone who was concerned about the strong smell of ammonia flagged down firefighters in a passing rescue truck.

Michigan is surrounded by water. It has an industrial heritage. And its documented PFAS contamination is related to both.

Yet measuring chemical risks leaves a major question unanswered: How much PFAS is in the blood of the average Michigan resident?

A $4 million federal grant will let the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services figure that out.

It‰??s a two-part effort that will play out over five years.

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A potential hazmat situation that forced a portion of Mines Road to be closed during rush hour turned out to be a minor incident.

The spill happened at Investment Avenue which is less than half a mile from Muller Elementary School.

When the Laredo Fire Department arrived, hazmat crews determined the spill was made up of 35 percent peroxide mixed with water which came from a punctured container.

A private hazmat crew was called in to clear the scene and a chemical response company determined the mixture was a minor irritant.

Eight CFS resources, along with SA Police, the Metropolitan Fire Service and the Environmental Protection Authority, attended the site on Davidson Road, where two 1000-litre containers of hydrogen peroxide were spilt in a shed.

A CFS spokesperson said someone on the property saw white fumes coming out of the shed and called emergency services at about 11am.

EPA ARGUES ITS BLOG ISN'T PUBLIC INFORMATION, WON'T CHANGE POST

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) won‰??t tweak a recent blog post environmentalists say is inaccurate because the agency argues its blog is not considered public information.

The tension stemmed from a June post on the agency‰??s blog that included apparent praise for EPA action on pesticides considered harmful to bees.

‰??The Washington Post has also recently reported on some of our efforts, saying that ‰??the Trump administration‰??s action [to protect pollinators] was welcome news to some environmentalists,‰?? which demonstrates how united Americans are on this important issue,‰?? Alexandra Dapolito Dunn, the EPA‰??s assistant administrator for the Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, wrote in the blog post.

But that Washington Post article more broadly referenced how the EPA scaled back the use of some pesticides as part of a legal settlement with the Center for Food Safety.

A make-your-own-slime kit is being recalled in Canada due to a chemical hazard.

According to Health Canada, DIY Shake Slime toys do not meet the Canadian toy safety requirements for boric acid content.

There seven different Shake Slime products named in the recall, including scented, glitter, confetti and galaxy variations. A full list can be found on Health Canada‰??s website.

As of August 25, they had not received any reports of injuries, but boric acid can be toxic to children if licked or swallowed.

Health Canada recommends that consumers immediately take away the recalled toy from children and dispose of the product. Just under 10,000 units have been sold in Canada.

CP Rail has deployed teams to the site, she said. The Transportation Safety Board says it has a team of investigators from Calgary en route to the scene, which is near Highway 23 at Township Road 120.

Three rail cars leaked octane, which is flammable, Lethbridge County Reeve Lorne Hickey said. Two have been secured but a third remains buried by other cars. The pile has to be taken apart in order to reach the leak, he said, adding that work may continue into the night.
