Thanks everyone on the DCHAS discussion group for your replies to my question regarding respirator qualification and spirometry.

Based on these replies and the suggestion to go back to review the OSHA regulations and guidance, we were able to get our occupational health services provider to agree that spirometry was not necessary for respirator qualification provided the employee(s) filled out the questionnaire and replied appropriately.

What I did not mention in my posting was that our employees not only are respirator qualified but are also members of our 40 hour HAZMAT team. There are medical surveillance requirements under that standard as well that we also must follow which is why we send every employee for initial and yearly physicals.

BTW, the posts I have seen on COVID and masks have been excellent and I have shared many of them with my colleagues here in Weymouth as well as friends and family. There is so much misinformation out there both by shear ignorance or on purpose that it has been nice to sit down and read thoughtful and scientific discussions on the subject of COVID and respiratory protection. I have a daughter who is a nurse, another a teacher, and my son a letter carrier so I see COVID from a number of different perspectives as well as being the manager of a facility trying to stay open during the pandemic. The insights from this group have helped me provide some level of comfort and guidance.

Thanks again for the help.

Joe
