SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A chlorine exposure incident happened Sunday afternoon at Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corp. located at 15000 E. Euclid Ave.

The incident remains under investigation, however Julie Happy from Spokane Valley Fire Department was able to confirm some of the details.

At around 1:30 p.m., emergency dispatch received a call from a Kaiser employee who reported accidental chlorine inhalation. A Hazmat response team was called to the scene, along with emergency responders. Kaiser evacuated the immediate area. Hazmat arrived on scene, and a shut off was initiated. At 1:46, the leak was reported as stopped, and Kaiser began ventilating the site. The incident was reported to be under control.

One person was transported to the hospital, but there is no update on the patient or their condition at this time.

Nadiad(PTI): Some 40 seized vehicles parked within the premises of a police station in Gujarat's Kheda district were gutted in a massive fire, an official said on Sunday.

The blaze may have been started by firecrackers and was aided by four to five barrels of chemicals seized in an oil theft case, leaving 30 to 40 vehicles, including 25 four-wheelers, three autorickshaws and some two-wheelers fully burnt, said Ahmedabad Range Inspector General of Police V Chandrashekhar.

"The incident occurred at around 11 pm on Friday. Preliminary findings suggest the blaze was caused by firecrackers, and four to five chemical barrels aided it. The exact number of vehicles damaged is being determined," he added.

A probe has begun under a forensic team to determine the cause of the fire, which took almost two hours to bring under control after seven fire tenders were deployed, a Kheda town police station official said.

Nigeria can harness its human, social, and economic potential only through adequate use of its abundant natural and human resources. Chemicals are the most critical agent of Nigeria‰??s industrial revolution. They are useful in manufacturing and economic development and occupy a pivotal role in many industrial sectors. This study assesses Nigeria‰??s framework for sound management of chemicals in chemical industries and the local threats limiting its developmental strides. It reviews past and current regulations, as well as guidelines and processes for compliance by chemical importers, exporters, distributors, and end users. Highlighted are the Nigerian chemical supply chain measures to enhance sound chemical management nationwide. Also discussed are the need to strengthen these regulations and laws and the necessary steps to place the country on the path of development and to ensure the socioeconomic wellbeing of its citizens and environment.

A propane tank has been deemed safe after its main tank valve failed and created a hazmat incident in Waterbury on Saturday.

Firefighters responded to Meriden Road after getting a report of a 1,000 gallon liquid propane tank leak.

After assessing the situation, fire officials said it was determined that the main tank valve had failed and the full tank had to be safely offloaded.

The state Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection and Amerigas helped firefighters offload the tank into a tanker and then the residual liquid and vapor was burned off, according to firefighters.

WARRICK COUNTY (WEHT) ‰?? The Ohio Township Fire Department (OTFD) was dispatched around 8:40 Friday night to a report of a chemical odor in the 5700 block of Brookstone Drive.

The first crews said they arrived in the area to investigate and found an unknown chemical leaking down the hill from a industrial facility. The facility found with the leak was located on Prospect Drive behind the neighborhood.

Officials tell us the duty chief upgraded the incident to a Level 1 hazmat incident and requested Scott Township Fire and EMS for mutual aide HAZMAT resources, Chandler FIre Department who moved apparatus for standby coverage, and Warrick EMS for standby as well made contact with Warrick County EMA and Law Enforcement.

Due to the initial flammable gas readings that were encountered, fire officials tell us it prompted a small evacuation of part of the affected neighborhood. Warrick County Dispatch said they utilized the reverse 911 feature, as well as door to door contact by Law Enforcement to make notification of the evacuation area and some areas were deemed okay to shelter in place.

Fire officials say that Hazmat Technicians were able to slow and eventually stop the leak that appeared to be coming from a 15,000 gallon storage tank, and was escaping the containment area. They added that teams contained the runoff with assistance from the facilities employees using absorbent materials.

The story sounded like it was made for Hollywood: Two chemistry professors in a small Arkansas college town accused of cooking methamphetamine in their school laboratory.

On the night of Oct. 7, 2019, a chemical spill occurred in Room 304 at Henderson State University‰??s Reynolds Science Center. The next day, a strong odor filled the building, forcing the school to evacuate the building and cancel classes. Weeks later, Terry David Bateman, 47, and Bradley Rowland, 42, were arrested and charged with manufacturing meth and other drug-related offenses.

But since then, the tale hasn‰??t followed a clear script. Last week, almost two years after his arrest, Bateman was acquitted of all charges by a Clark County Circuit Court jury, despite incriminating testimony from Rowland.

Then, on Friday, Rowland pleaded guilty in the same Arkadelphia courtroom to three felonies ‰?? manufacturing meth, drug paraphernalia use, and manufacture of a controlled substance, phenylacetone. Also known as P2P or phenyl-2-propanone, the substance is the penultimate chemical step in a common technique used to manufacture meth.

BRIDGEPORT, CT ‰?? A chemical defined by fire officials as a "glue substance" reportedly was released at a site on Cogswell Street in Bridgeport Friday morning, which required a building evacuation.

Details on the spill were not immediately available, but WTNH-TV reported substance was sprayed into the air. No injuries have been reported.

Patch will update this story as more information is released.
